Witch’s Brew: Brewing Your Own Healing Teas

Have you ever tried brewing up your own potions at home? Yes, brewed tea is a potion! By hand blending and brewing your tea with intention, you will end up with a big ole’ cup of pure magic!

Tea invokes all five elements, so it is great when practicing Elemental Magic. The leaves, roots, seeds, flowers, and fruit represent earth. The steam and aroma of the brew represents the air element. The warmth of the tea represents fire. The water represents the water element, and the ritual process of blending and brewing the tea represents the ether or spirit element.

The plants you choose to use in your tea blend depend on what you resonate with personally, and how well the plants you use align with the intention you want to set for your brew. For example, if you are brewing a potion to help you sleep, you might want to use chamomile, lavender and peppermint for their soothing properties, or if you are brewing a potion for grounding and strength, you could try working with roots like ginger or dandelion root.

Different teas also work with balancing different chakras, so consider making a brew specific to any chakra work you may be doing. Here is a quick list of some teas that work with each chakra:

Root Chakra - Ginger, Dandelion Root, Ashwagandha

Sacral Chakra - Calendula, Hibiscus

Solar Plexus Chakra - Rosemary, Fennel, Cinnamon

Heart Chakra - Hawthorn Berry, Rose, Marjoram

Throat Chakra - Lemon Balm, Eucalyptus

Third Eye Chakra - Lemon, Jasmine, Mint

Crown Chakra - Sage, Lavender, Mugwort

You can use as many herbs/flowers/roots as you want to according to the intention you set. It’s sometimes easiest to use equal parts of each plant for your tea, but the amounts you want to use are up to you. The recipe for your brew will be entirely your own, and be sure to write it down in your spell book or journal for future reference. Now that you have all the basic info, let’s brew up some magic! Here is a recipe to get you started, but feel free to change it up as needed.

Witches Brew for Inner Peace

You will need:

  • Lavender for it’s relaxing properties
  • Rose for opening the heart chakra
  • Mint for a clear mind
  • Kettle for boiling water
  • Mug and tea infuser or something that you can brew loose leaf tea in

- Once you have gathered all of your ingredients, start by cleansing your work space.
- Now it’s time to set an intention for your potion. Set a clear intention and name your recipe accordingly. Keep your intention in mind as you brew your tea.
- Write down your recipe and intention. Perhaps you want to turn your intention into an incantation that you can speak over your brew. Write it all down in your spell book or journal.
- Boil your water. Gather equal parts of each plant you are using and place them directly into the tea infuser. If you are using hand picked herbs pluck the leaves off the stem by hand and place them in the tea strainer. As you do this, state your intention or incantation aloud.
- Pour the water over the tea and allow the brew to infuse for 5 minutes or so.
- When you decide to drink your brew, keep your intention in your mind as you drink. Drinking your brew is part of the ritual, so soak up every last drop of magic!

Happy brewing, witches!
